Guide to Taking Back Power: A Blueprint for Change
Page under construction and updated frequently. Check back for more tips.
This is a battle plan for every American who refuses to kneel to tyranny — a call to action for candidates, organizers, and everyday people ready to take this state/country back and fight for justice, truth, and real democracy.
Tyranny thrives on silence, disinformation, and division. This is a guide for those ready to resist — boldly, effectively, and together.
FOUNDATIONAL ACTIONS FOR DEMOCRACY
Protect and Participate in Democracy
Vote in every election — local, state, federal. Help others vote: register people, volunteer as a poll worker, provide rides. Fight voter suppression by supporting groups like Clean Elections Texas (CETex), Fair Fight, or the Brennan Center. Promote automatic and same-day registration in your state.
Stay Informed — and Help Others Stay Informed
Seek facts from independent, nonpartisan sources. Correct misinformation — even when uncomfortable. Share newsletters, podcasts, explainers, and educational content with your network.
Speak Out
Use your voice in everyday conversations, at protests, town halls, and online. Challenge authoritarian or fascist rhetoric. Create and share: memes, reels, protest posters, zines, explainer threads.
Protect the Vulnerable
Speak up when you witness discrimination or harm. Support and amplify marginalized communities. Use your career, platform, or privilege to push for justice.
DEFEND THE FOUNDATIONS
Support Institutions Under Attack
Fund or volunteer with: Investigative journalism (e.g., ProPublica, Texas Tribune), Civil rights defenders (e.g., ACLU, SPLC), environmental groups, whistleblower protections, fight book bans, censorship, and political interference in public schools.
Build Alternatives
Join or support mutual aid networks, free clinics, food banks, local co-ops. Encourage parallel systems that serve people when government fails them.
Practice Everyday Resistance
Refuse to normalize corruption, cruelty, or propaganda. Boycott unethical companies, lobbyists, and politicians. Call your representatives often — make demands, and hold them accountable. Challenge extremist policies, especially at the school board and city council level.
ORGANIZE WITH POWER AND PURPOSE
Join Movements
Tyranny is never defeated alone. Join or support: Pro-democracy organizations, Climate justice groups, Reproductive rights movements, Racial equity and police accountability organizations, or start a grassroots group in your own neighborhood.
Run for Office
School boards, water boards, city councils — local power is real power. Encourage everyday Americans to run — especially working-class, BIPOC, LGBTQ+, and young leaders. Refuse corporate PAC money. Win with people power.
AMPLIFY, CONNECT, AND ACT
Talk to Friends and Family
Normalize political conversations. Share what’s at stake — and what’s possible. Help others register, vote, and take action. Help others understand the stakes without shaming — especially swing voters or the disengaged.
Call Representatives
Push for justice-driven policies. Demand they reject voter suppression, book bans, and fascist talking points. Flood local offices — show them Texans are watching.

Engage With and Create Content
Share important news and campaign updates. Create TikToks, threads, memes, short videos, or art that spreads truth and hope. Use humor, emotion, and facts to counter hate and lies.
DIRECT ACTION & ACCOUNTABILITY
Protest
Join or organize peaceful demonstrations. Use your voice, body, and platform to stand in public solidarity. Support protestors with supplies, rides, legal contacts, or safety teams.
Record Abuses
Document voter intimidation, police brutality, ICE activity, or civil rights violations. Share responsibly and safely — protect identities if needed. Send evidence to legal aid or press when appropriate.
Attend Public Meetings & Town Halls
Speak truth to power. Ask tough questions. Organize your community to attend en masse. Don’t let authoritarian voices dominate the room.
USE YOUR MONEY AS A TOOL FOR JUSTICE
Boycott GOP-Aligned Businesses
Identify and share companies funding far-right policies or politicians. Organize targeted boycotts with clear demands and alternatives.
Support Justice-Aligned Businesses
Spend money at local, minority-owned, LGBTQ-owned, immigrant-owned businesses. Promote businesses that take real stands against injustice. Use campaign partnerships to uplift community-based enterprises.
MOST IMPORTANTLY: DON’T GIVE UP
Tyrants rely on: Your silence. Your exhaustion. Your fear. But Texas has a long history of fighters who refused to back down — from labor organizers and civil rights leaders to the average American. Know that you are not alone. Solidarity is stronger than fear. Compassion is more radical than cruelty.
